Java Development Kit (JDK) needs to be installed on the Computer System before Java programming language can be used to develop applications. JDK can be obtained from the Download - Java 2 Standard Section section in the Sun Microsystems website. You may download the current JDK 6 Update 16 version which is about 73.5MB. You will also be prompted to specify the Operating System platform that the JDK will be installed. You may click on the jdk-6u16-windows-i586.exe filename for a direct download or you may use the Sun Download Manager (SDM) tool. Upon completion of the JDK download, click on the executable filename and respond to the dialog boxes. In the Microsoft Windows Operating System, the default installation directory is C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0.
